Organizing Labor in the Greater Baltimore DSA
GBDSA's Labor Working Group empowers the working people of the Greater Baltimore area through supporting rank-and-file organizing, building coalitions with unions, and supporting labor actions like strikes, demonstrations, and unionization drives.
Priority Campaign: Maryland Right to Strike
Maryland state law prohibits public sector workers (city, county, or state employees) from going on strike under any circumstances.
Hundreds of thousands of workers are unable to adequately fight for fair contracts that allow them to provide the essential services all Marylanders rely on.
GBDSA, in coalition with dozens of unions and partner orgs, has been fighting to overturn this unjust ban and guarantee the Right to Strike for all public sector workers.
Priority Campaign: Salting Amazon
"Salting" is a labor tactic in which organizers take a job with the intention of organizing their coworkers into unionizing.
DSA's National Labor Commission is collaborating a major push to unionize Amazon, one the world's largest and fastest growing employers.
As part of this campaign, GBDSA Labor actively recruits, trains, places, and supports "salts" who are working to unionize the thousands of Amazon employees here in the Greater Baltimore area.
